Leveraging AI For Historical Research

Welcome — DocumentHunter.ai Beta
DocumentHunter.ai
Welcome to DocumentHunter.ai, Beta Tester.
First, I want to say thank you for offering to help push this project to the next level.

DocumentHunter.ai started as a personal challenge: could AI help to unlock the history frozen inside a 160-year-old collection of Civil War documents? Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect. But just four months later, what I have built has completely blown past my wildest expectations. The data that has been pulled out of these old pages is incredible:
  • Over 500 documents have been fully transcribed.
  • Over 3,400 unique ancestors have been identified and given biographies.
  • Genealogical, Legal, and Verbatim transcriptions now tell the tale that each document holds.
  • 1,000+ US Revenue stamps have been cataloged.
  • A living and breathing database that will continue to evolve.
But to take it even further, I need your help.

Explore freely and don't hold back! If something feels clunky, confusing, or impresses you, I want to know.

A special thanks to DaShon Foster, Ted Walters and Richard Friedberg
for all the advice that kept me moving forward!

Happy Hunting,

Mario J. Fernandez - Founder

This is a quick tour of what there is to explore, organized into three levels. Check things off as you go — your progress is saved. There's no wrong way to do this; jump to whatever looks interesting.
Just take me to the site
Skip the tour and go straight to DocumentHunter.ai — you can always come back to this checklist later.
— or explore the checklist below —
Level 1 — Just Exploring Start here
0 / 0
For anyone who just wants to try the searches and stamp resources — no account needed for this level. A few things are intentionally out of reach here; that's expected, not a bug.
Level 2 — Open a Free Account Uses credits
0 / 0
Once you've created a free account, you'll have credits to spend on real content — transcripts, legal analyses, and genealogical stories. This level is about seeing what a document actually gives up once you look closer.
⚠ DH.ai Beta Accounts will be decommissioned after the Beta ends.
Level 3 — Build Something Harder
0 / 0
This level is less "click a button" and more "figure it out." The goal is to use the Workspace like a real research tool — pull cards together, connect people across documents, and organize a project of your own.
✨ Introducing the History Physics Project
Use the History Physics Project to visualize the connections between ancestors — a unique, ground-breaking way to see relationships across your research that you won't find anywhere else on DH.ai.
About the Beta Feedback tab: there's a "💬 Beta Feedback" button available on every page of the site. Use it exactly like you'd flag something to a colleague sitting next to you — confusing layout, a button that didn't do what you expected, a feature you wanted but couldn't find. It's tied to your tester code and goes straight into our internal tracking, page-by-page. The more specific ("on the Document Search page, the Save button didn't turn green") the more useful it is to us.
